Congressional Candidate David Boyd Statement on the President's Authorization of Strikes on Iran

March 1, 2026  |  Press Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Congressional Candidate David Boyd issued the following statement on the President's Authorization of Military Strikes on Iran

"Early Saturday morning, the President of the United States announced military strikes, in coordination with Israel, on the country of Iran. The objective provided by the President was "to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime".

"The authoritarian Iranian government has historically suppressed the speech of its citizens and is responsible for the death and imprisonment of thousands of Iranian protesters. Iran is a known state sponsor of terrorism and has made no secret of its desire to develop a nuclear weapon that would threaten the region and the United States.

"The abandonment of diplomatic efforts and subsequent military strikes immediately plunged the Middle East into turmoil, with Iranian retaliatory strikes against the countries of Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates.

"The killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei demonstrated the United States military's ability to locate, isolate, and eliminate threats anytime and anywhere. This capability, however, comes with responsibility on the part of the Commander-in-Chief.

Responsibility to consult with Congress prior to declaring war on a foreign country. Responsibility to prepare for any and all risks of retaliation.

"Responsibility to have a comprehensive plan in the case of regime change.

And the responsibility to protect the lives of Americans and our service members abroad.

"The President must obtain congressional approval for military action in Iran, formally address the nation to explain the nature of the imminent threat, and communicate a strategy to end this war through diplomacy.

"I am concerned there will be unnecessary large-scale destruction in Iran and a lack of regard for innocent human life, similar to offenses committed by the Israeli military in Gaza, leading to a potential humanitarian crisis.

"Our campaign is closely watching the developments in the Middle East, and I am praying for our service members and innocent people in the line of danger."
