Congressional Candidate David Boyd Statement on TSA and the Partial Government Shutdown

March 24, 2026  |  Press Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Congressional Candidate David Boyd issued the following statement on TSA and the Partial Government Shutdown

"Every day, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers complete the often thankless task of screening millions of passengers and bags at airports across America in support of our nation's counterterrorism objectives. Their work is integral to our national security and carries a zero-fail mandate similar to that of their sister agency, the United States Secret Service. Although the duties of TSA officers appear routine and repetitive, it is this repetition that strengthens counterterrorism capabilities and protects American passengers

and aircraft against acts of terrorism.

"As a former Transportation Security Officer at Indianapolis International Airport (IND) and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, I have worked through a government shutdown and understand the stress many TSA officers are facing during this partial government shutdown.

"In addition to imposing undue financial strain on DHS employees, this particular shutdown has led to a reduction in morale across multiple agencies and the resignation of hundreds of well-trained and intentioned TSA officers. Cascading disruptions into American life by way of extended wait times, missed flights, and the deployment of ICE agents to airports has only elevated

the stress of many Americans.

"Bipartisanship is necessary to bring this shutdown to an end. Government employees should never be the casualty of lawmakers failing to reach a deal to fund the government. Government shutdowns must become a thing of the past through bipartisanship, good-faith negotiations, and long-term funding bills.

"If elected U.S. Representative for the 6th Congressional District of Indiana, I will work to pass legislation that blocks lawmakers' pay during a government shutdown, increase the salaries of TSA employees to be in alignment with other federal agencies, and ensure that essential government employees required to work during a government shutdown receive additional

compensation."
