INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Congressional Candidate David Boyd issued the following statement on the President's Blockade of the Strait of Hormuz
"The Trump Administration's decision to utilize the United States Navy to block the Strait of Hormuz does nothing to benefit the American people nor solve the financial pain Americans are experiencing at the pump.
"This action not only further raises the cost of gasoline, diesel, and the fertilizer that American farmers depend on, but it places our troops and military bases in the region at even greater risk.
"The continuation of this military blockade will prove devastating for countries who rely heavily on Iranian oil for energy purposes and navigation through this waterway for the import and export of important goods.
"For weeks, other countries have had to make tough decisions to ration gasoline, shorten work weeks due to energy shortages, and seek alternatives due to reduced food availability.
"Countries have a duty to provide for the general welfare of their people by providing fuel for automobiles and heavy equipment, and by ensuring there is electricity to power homes, businesses, and hospitals.
"This blockade raises tensions and may provoke other countries to retaliate through sanctions or militarily due to their inability to procure goods that provide for the survival and well-being of their citizens.
"As a nation, we have a responsibility to deploy our military responsibly and to make sure we are not harming other countries directly or indirectly who have nothing to do with this conflict.
"The decision to restrict the freedom of movement of foreign vessels, especially through this critical shipping channel, should never be taken lightly, but with prudence and care.
"I am calling on the Trump Administration to end this military blockade immediately and to properly end this war through diplomacy before a humanitarian crisis ensues and more American service members are lost."
